LOFTS 2 | 4/24/26

The second installment to the Live from the LOFTS series, LOFTS 2 was the product of all my writings created during the Spring ‘26 semester. If the purpose of LOFTS 1 was to start, then 2 was meant to expand. Samples ranging from 90s Korean psychedelic to clips of guitarists busking to Jimi Hendrix. Additionally, 2 included more experimentation in performance, spotlighted by the cover of James Blake’s Lindisfarne which utilized a pair of vocal pedals (autotune + harmony) to achieve a similar yet uniquely new take on the song.

One of the most important takeaways from the preparation for this installment was the solidification of the duration of the series - 6 parts total. This number, hypothetically, is the number of semesters I will have access to this venue. Coincidentally, this is the same amount of installments made in one of the most pivotal projects for my music - the Luv(sic) hexalogy by Nujabes and Shing02 (with help from Uyama Hiroto). Once this connection was made, I knew it was perfect. Hence, although I had this epiphany one installment too late, I decided I would make it tradition to pay homage to the original hexalogy by covering the corresponding Luv(sic) part for each LOFTS installment (see final track on the tracklist below).

Overall, this was a great and memorable night (maybe for some unfortunate undisclosed reasons too), but I feel it’s just the tip of the LOFTS iceberg.
